The Foundational Level Mathematics Preparation Institute
Program Description
The Foundational Level Mathematics Preparation Institute at Sonoma State University will prepare teachers to earn a Foundational Level Mathematics Teaching Credential. This Institute will provide intensive review of mathematics required for the CSET Mathematics tests, secondary mathematics teaching methods course work, and CSET test preparation.
The Foundational Level Mathematics Preparation Institute Will:
- provide an intensive review of mathematics concepts and skills required for the CSET tests
- provide the required secondary mathematics teaching methods course
- provide test preparation
- cover materials and fees such as SSU Extended Education class fees, reimburse the rest registration fees, and credential filing costs. Participant pays for textbooks.
How Much Will the FLM Preparation Institute Cost?
There is no fee to participate in the FLMTC Institute. Test registration fees and credential fees will be entirely refunded to those who complete the Institute. All other course costs are covered; materials and SSU Extended Education fees.
The Foundational Level General Science Preparation Institute
Program Description
The Foundational Level General Science Preparation Institute will prepare teachers to earn a Foundational Level General Science (FLGS) California Teaching Credential. The Summer Institute will provide intensive review of science concepts and CSET test preparation. The FLGS Credential authorizes teaching integrated science through 8th grade and general science at the high school level (as opposed to college-prep high school biology, chemistry, or physics).
The FLGS Preparation Institute at Sonoma State University will:
- Actively engage participants in a hands-on review of core life science, physical science, and earth and space science ideas that are all aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and prepare teachers for the CSET Subtest 1
- Help participants plan and assess core science ideas in ways that integrate science and engineering practices (meeting the required secondary science method course)
- Help participants support diverse learners when teaching science
- Cover fees such as SSU Extended Education class fees, reimburse the test registration fees, and credential filing fees. (Participant pays for textbooks.)

How Much Will the FLGS Institute Cost?
There is no fee to participate in the FLGS Institute, but enrollees must purchase their own textbooks. Enrollees will need to register for July CSET (subtest #1). Test registration fees and credential fees will be entirely refunded to those who complete the Institute. All other course costs are covered including SSU Extended Education fees.
